dancrisp2_music_4_life_at_beerContemporary rock artist Dan Crisp is something of an old-fashioned soul at the ripe age of 26, but this spring he is firmly embracing internet culture and technology, as well as drawing on the rhythms of the Moon, for his latest gifts to the music-loving public.

Signed to Exeter-based Established 1954 Records, tall, dark, handsome and impeccably mannered Dan, is about to embark on a month of Sunday residencies at Mama Stone’s in Exeter, as well as digitally drip-feeding the new songs he has been recording at Sawmills Studio at Golant in Cornwall on a monthly basis via his pages on Facebook and YouTube.

The good-natured chap from Wellington in Somerset, who professes a love for the whole concept of the physical album, is prepared to take the slow-burn route, inviting comments about the recordings ahead of any CD pressing or fancy sleeves.

A sneak preview of some of the tracks reveals a much more gutsy, rocky, US-friendly feel when compared with his beautifully packaged debut collection, Far From Here, released in 2008.

This could probably be attributed to his recording sessions with Sawmills’ world-renowned producer John Cornfield (Muse, Razorlight, Oasis), but also reflects a new confidence and growth in Dan’s focus.

“It is genuinely more me,” asserts Dan, who previously played with alternative rock band State of Fury.

A guitarist since the age of 10, Dan has made a habit of turning heads in the right places. Jethro Tull guitarist Martin Barre has long been an admirer and mentor and Dan will be playing a number of European dates with him this year, starting in Milan, Italy on May 23.

He is managed by Liam Smith, son of Dennis Smith, the co-owner of Sawmills, who discovered rock giants Muse back in the 1990s.

He has had many appearances at Mama Stone’s which is, of course, owned by Wendy Joseph – Joss Stone’s mother – and her husband Jonathan. With so much interest and support from respected and influential faces, Dan’s continued rise seems well starred.Dan Crisp
