count_to_fireCount To Fire were inspired by a love of great American Alt-Country bands such as Wilco and My Morning Jacket, and a frustration that their records and gigs never came to town. Will Odgers (vocals and guitar) and Joe Baxter (bass and backing vocals) formed Count To Fire in Spring 2006. Working together in Exeter’s Martian records and sharing their own self-penned songs they realised that together they had what it takes to make their own musical magic.

Creating an evocative and original sound that has been described as ‘English country’ Count To Fire quickly gained a large local following and earned support slots playing with North American counterparts such as Great Lake Swimmers and Richmond Fontaine. Joined by violinist Joe Mansfield and drummer Dan Stewart, their debut album ‘Songs That Remind me of you’ was released in 2008 to critical acclaim.

Review of ‘Songs That Remind Me Of You’:
One of the most impressive things about Count To Fire is that while most of their influences come from across the pond they don’t go out of their way to sound American like so many of their other British alt-country counterparts. ‘Songs That Remind Me Of You’ is the sound of a band who has the potential to stand alongside some of the bigger names who inspired them. An impressive debut which could make Count To Fire one of the best new British bands this year. 9/10

Having played a wide variety of festivals and shows around the UK and secured extensive radio play throughout Europe, Count To Fire completed their eventful summer of 2009 by being invited to travel to Canada to record their follow-up album titled “In Another Life”.

Having caught the eye of acclaimed Canadian producer Colin Cripps (Kathleen Edwards, Bryan Adams) the band worked closely with him to complete a new set of songs at the unique Catherine North Studios.

This studio (a converted church complete with spectacular stained glass) has been used by the likes of Josh Ritter, Dallas Green and Feist. With limited time available the band worked and lived in the studio for eight days straight to create an album which is both organic and irresistible. Experimenting with vintage 1960’s equipment Count To Fire have enhanced the soundscape of their new songs. The result being a mature and natural album which draws influences from artists such as Neil Young, Nick Cave, and Cat Power. Whilst also revealing the band’s own unique sounding voice.
